Ayurveda
Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. The term “Ayurveda” means “the science of life” in Sanskrit. It emphasizes balance in the body, mind, and spirit as the key to health and wellness.
Ayurveda is based on the concept of three primary doshas, or energy types: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas represent different combinations of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—and govern various physiological and psychological functions. Each person has a unique dosha constitution, and maintaining balance according to this constitution is crucial for health.
